Analyzing the Discourse of Shakespearean Tragedy

One of the aims of discourse analysis, we are told, is analyzing ideology and how the human perception can be manipulated. Of course, discourse analysis, cannot claim the monopoly of this objective. However, being preceded by other attempts that tried to subvert the dominant ideological paradigms which were eventually contained, one is justified in asking whether discourse analysis can reach a different conclusion. To find an answer one needs uncover an endless war of subversion and containment on the part of those who try to reveal ideological manipulation and those who benefit from and try to preserve the status quo.
