The Policy of Arabization in Algeria

This work aims at investigating factors affecting the policy of Arabization in Algeria, such as language competence, language choice, and language attitudes in addition to attitudes towards Arabization and Arabic-French Bilingualism. Correlations between these factors and socio-biographical variables are also investigated. Besides, the aforementioned factors are classified, among other linguistic as well as non-linguistic factors elicited from a number of Algerians, as favouring or disfavouring the policy of Arabization in Algeria. The work’s results then may lead to implications related to fields other than Sociolinguistics and Language planning; fields like Applied Linguistics, Politics and perhaps Social Marketing. Therefore, this work should be useful for any researcher interested in Human Sciences.
