The focus of this book is to consider ceramics used in biomedical applications, now generally referred to as bioceramics and their applications in the repair and reconstruction of diseased or damaged body parts. Most clinical applications of bioceramics relate to the repair of the skeletal system, comprising bone, joints, and teeth, and to augment both hard and soft tissue. The most common bioceramics used in bone tissue applications is calcium phosphate that has been widely used for the regeneration of bone tissue because of their ability to induce osteoblastic differentiation in progenitor cells. To restore skeleton function in the field of orthopedic and oral-maxillofacial surgery, bone tissue regeneration remains an important challenge. Therefore, this book will highlight summary of bioceramic classifications and properties particularly biodegradability, bioactivity, biocompatibility, surface properties, mechanical properties, osteoconductivity, osteoinductivity and porosity which are crucial for the bone tissue substitutes application of the bioceramic materials.
