This Book deals with the phenomenon of illegal immigration in international law and state practice. It discusses general rules and principles that govern illegal immigration in international law. It focuses on historical background, definition of illegal immigration and other related terms, and addresses, in particular, the issue of illegal immigration via the maritime boundaries of Libya and Italy. To evaluate the principles and rules governing illegal immigration this study examines international regulations and policies on illegal immigration at the UN level and from the viewpoint of other international organisations, with particular reference to the policy of the EU, illustrating their recent international development and progress. This study concentrates on practice concerning illegal immigration of certain selected states – the UK, France, Germany, Spain and Turkey.
